Angelos Spending????

Sammy Sosa looks good in an O's uniform. What the hell is that all about? I have a hard time following baseball over here so I was wondering if this a good trade? Obviously he's worth Jerri Harriston and two minor league players (O's usually have shitty farm system) for the present but he'll costs a shit load of money to resign him. Can the O's really compete for the wild card spot with "slamming" or "swinging" Sammy? Can the O's overtake Boston for 2nd place within the division? It should be an interesting season if Sammy can get on form. Camden Yards has an awfully short fence in right field. What are your thoughts?

Several things:
A: Angelos is not spending - the cubs are picking up about 11 mil of his contract, and he's not signing sammy to an extension. This is the deal of the century.
B: O's will not compete for a wild card spot. The AL is super strong this year, and I'm guessing the signing was to boost season ticket sales in the face of the Nationals arriving in DC - which is probably where he'llg et the money to sign sammy - from the MLB settlement.
C: A great trade for the O's - but they could have used pitching more.

Sanjiv is right on...the O's pick Sosa up for around $7 million for the season and save $2 million that they don't have to pay Hairston. It, hopefully, will be a win-win situation. Still...I am just waiting for Hairston to explode into an incredible player for the Cubs, that would make this a typical Orioles trade. Either way the O's should have an awesome hitting lineup this season as long as no one gets hurt. --John Morton

O's will get 2nd in their division behind the Yankees and Sangiv will be buying me dinner at "In and Out". And yes, Angelos is a cheap bastard...the title is sarchasim.
