Journalism, Calling'em Like They See'em

During the recent chain of events I've been watching a lot of the Hurrican Katrina coverage on CNN. The journalists finally came around to speaking of the race and povery issues that make up New Orleans. Don't ask me how or why TV journalists couldn't pick up on this sooner but I think Wolf Blitzer put it best when he said, " These victims are so poor ... (pause) and so black". “So black”??? Wolf, good luck on winning the TV News Emmy with “so black”. Something tells me he has a lot of white friends.

On a serious note, what an awful event. I can’t even imagine the victim’s struggle of daily life or the personal motivation that’s needed to live for the next few months. Primal Instinct? Pray for those people.

i couldn't agree more...katrina is a crazy, devastating thing. I'm sad to think that the Big Easy will never be the same again - it was always one of my favorites cities to visit. The people, the culture, the oppressive heat - made it a delight. I hope they can bounce back soon.
